Mother’s Day

I hope all the mothers out there had a good, good enough, or at least not horrible day.

I have a mother that can sing, paint, draw, play tennis, and plays a mean game of World of Warcraft. She’s spent her life being a mother and a damn fine one. She didn’t pursue many of those talents, but I can remember back through the years when those talents influenced me here and there.

While I was making paper dolls with my child-like talents, she drew gorgeous dresses for me to cut out for those paper dolls.

Her mother crocheted all the time and Mom knew how as well.  I still have the pink granny square afghan that Mom made and there was always yarn in the house for me to use. I remember Mom knitting long ago and she handed over all her knitting needles when I started to learn. I come by all my crafting desires honestly even though you wouldn’t look at my mom and think “Crafter”.  She taught herself to cross stitch after I learned how and made a couple of beautiful pieces.

When I was little she played records of the latest hits on a little record player and albums on this huge console stereo in the living room. I have my own music collection and it all started with her. We always sang to the music on the record layer or on the radio.

I introduced her to video games when she came to visit for the birth of her first grandchild and took to the games like a duck to water. She bought a personal computer as soon as she got home and has been an avid player ever since.  Everything from MahJong to World of Warcraft.  I love people’s reactions when I tell them my 70+ year old mother plays.

My own Mother’s Day was great.  Joshua came to visit as a surprise and the kids gave me great gifts and cards. Chynna hand painted her card on an accordion notebook.

Spring Stitching

I had a hankering to start a new project for spring.  I started this back in March and it’s coming along nicely.  Historically, I haven’t been able to stick with projects for very long, but so far, so good.

Where to go from here

My regular blog has been hijacked by an IT professional I lovingly refer to as DH. It seems that my home server that was supposed to me mine was desperately needed for work related things. The blog was on that machine and the hard drives are sitting in a pile on my china hutch. So, das blog ist kaput.

I think it’s time for Kimberly to take things into her own hands and put her blog where the IT professional I lovingly refer to as DH can’t get his mitts on it. How does one do that? Should I host it here in the free space? Should I upgrade the Big Gray Beast? It would be an interesting learning experience if I did that.

I don’t suppose I’m crazy enough to just host it on my laptop, am I? The thing is usually always on anyway. I will have to think about this for a while.

The notes tell me I started this site in 2015 so that must be the last time something like this has happened. I remembered that I had started a blog but didn’t remember that I also had an email address to go with it. And I managed to find the password. That almost never happens. Passwords are my Kryponite.

At any rate, my blog has been down for a while and it’s making me kind of crazy. I’ve been knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, and spinning. I’ve had nowhere but Instagram to share those things. I’m new to Instagram, I’m enjoying it so far. I’m not really new to Twitter, I don’t use it much as it’s been ‘meh’. It has been about as ‘meh’ and bat crap crazy making as Facebook. I can do without the bat crap crazy.

I am Melanthe on Ravelry, melanthekym on Instagram, and Kimberly in the real world.
